Automobile studies and research- Engine

There are lot of definition for engine. But scientifically some more accurate is,

"Engine is a machine that converting thermal energy to mechanical energy."

The output may be motion or some other forms of energy, electrical energy ,sound energy etc...

   HISTORY

In 1971 John Barbur invented a gas turbine name as gas engine.

In 1794 Robert Street invented a lique-fueled petroleum engine, and it is the first petroleum gasoline engine.

In fact from the following years lots of scientist tried to make a better engine , result some to fail and somewhat to modified for boat, for aircraft, for ships,  for generators etc..

In 1872, George Brayton invented the first commercial lique-fueled internal combustion
engine.

In 1876 Nicolaus Otto invented  four-stroke engine. From that onwards the modern engines are named OTTO ENGINES.

In 1879, Karl Benz invented a reliable two-stroke gas engine.

In 1892, Rudolf Diesel developed the                  first   compression ignition engine.

  TYPES OF ENGINE

Engines are of mainly 2 types.

  1. Internal combustion engines (IC Engines)

Internal combustion engines are those  engines which produce energy by burning  the fuel inside the cylinder.

 2. External Combustion Engines (EC Engines)

External combustion engine are those engines which produce energy by burning the fuel outside the cylinder.

Most commonly and eficiently used engines are internal combustion engines.

COMPONENTS OF ENGINE. (IC Engine)

1.THE CYLINDER HEAD

The cylinder head is the channel through which the fuel enters the engine chamber and exhaust gases exhausts.

The main cylinder head components are:

Head Gasket.

Intake and Exhaust Ports.

Valves.

Combustion Chamber.

Spark plugs.

Fuel injectors.

Camshaft.

Other Cylinder Head Parts.

2.THE CYLINDER BLOCK

The cylinder block is where all the combustion action takes place.

The main cylinder block components are:

Cylinders.

Oil Passages or Galleries.

Deck.

Crankcase.

3. THE OIL SUMP

The oil sump constitutes the lowermost part of the engine.

The main oil sump components are:

Baffles.

Dipstick.

Windage Tray.

Drain Plug

These are the basic , and simplest about ENGINES .
